COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH SCHEME ~
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
EMPINGHAM PARISH COUNCIL
Fed up with cars speeding through our village?
It's your opportunity to do something about it!You can be one of the 15 volunteers to run a SPEED WATCH SCHEME. Our scheme will run every day from 31st August to 13th September. If you can only spare a few hours for the morning or afternoon slots just once that would help. Training will be provided before the scheme starts. We've made a successful application to Rutland County Council. They will be funding our work and have a vested interest in going forward with our findings.
If you can volunteer please email Jules Oakes at joakes1@me.com or text 07976 946460 as soon as possible.
Tonight's Parish Council meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be held on 10th July at 7pm in the Audit Hall. All are welcome to attend.
Hello All,
Many of you will have noticed and may have commented on the state of the grass verges in Empingham.
We (Empingham Parish Council-EPC) have contracted this to a company that is struggling to complete the works to the required standard. There have been many discussions and corrective actions already. A neighbouring parish also using the same company is experiencing the same poor standard and responses.
We are working on this and are in the process of a review. We have held an emergency council meeting and a discussion on what can be done. The options are now being evaluated and we are looking to have the situation resolved as soon as possible.
We will keep you updated as to progress and will advise of a completion date.
Kindest regards,
EPC

Rutland residents urged to register to have their say in May
On Thursday 4 May electors in Rutland will have their say at County and Parish elections on who represents them locally.
Residents must be on the electoral register to be able to vote in May. Rutland County Council is urging those who are not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered before it is too late.
The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Monday 17 April. It takes just five minutes to apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.
This year residents in Rutland will be voting to select:
- councillors, who represent their local area and residents, and will help shape the future of their local area by making plans and taking decisions
- parish councillors, who make decisions on local issues affecting their parish and act as ambassadors for their community, keeping everyone aware of local needs and concerns
Mark Andrews, Returning Officer for Rutland County Council, said:
"Local elections are an important opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who makes decisions about issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in Rutland. If you have recently turned 18 or moved home, it is particularly important to make sure you are correctly registered to vote. If you're in doubt, you can check with us by contacting us at elections@rutland.gov.uk or calling 01572 720 954"
Those intending to vote at polling stations in May will need to show photographic ID. A list of accepted forms of ID is available on the Electoral Commission's website. Those that do not have eligible ID can apply for free voter ID.
Ailsa Irvine, Director of Electoral Administration and Guidance at the Electoral Commission, said:
"If you're not registered by 17 April, you will not be able to vote this May. Registering to vote only takes five minutes and can be done online.
"This year voters should also remember that they will need to bring photo ID to the polling station to be able to vote. Anyone that does not have an accepted form of ID can apply for free voter ID by 25 April."
For information about registration or voter ID please contact Rutland County Council's Election team by emailing elections@rutland.gov.uk or call 01572 720 924.
Ends
For more information contact the Rutland County Council's Communications Office at communications@rutland.gov.uk or the Electoral Commission press office on 020 7271 0704, out of office hours 07789 920 414 or press@electoralcommission.org.uk
Notes to editors
- People can choose to vote in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 18 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 25 April.
- The requirement to show photo ID at the polling station, is a new requirement, introduced by the UK Government's Elections Act which was passed last year.
- To apply for the free ID, known as a Voter Authority Certificate, voters will need to provide a photo, full name, date of birth, the address at which they are registered to vote and their National Insurance number.

Good morning,
Heavy snow has disrupted a number of local services today. The following provides an update on these services, as of this morning:
Gritting
Roads have been gritted again overnight. Crews have been back out on the network with ploughs this morning. Local farmers are also helping us to clear snow from the roads. Highways are continuing to monitor road conditions and weather forecasts.
Schools
Schools, colleges, and Early Years providers are responsible for contacting parents if they are closing because of snow. We have publish information on our School and Childcare Closures page where settings have informed us that they will be closed today.
Transport
Local bus services will not be operating on Friday 10 March, due to the snow. This applies to all public and school services operated by Rutland County Council. Other operators may also be affected.
Bin collections
All bin collections have been suspended for Friday 10 March. This includes return collections to empty bins that were missed in Uppingham on Wednesday 8 March and Oakham on Thursday 9 March. Residents are asked to please leave their bins out if we have been unable to collect them as normal. We plan to catch up with collections on Saturday 11 March or next week, if this is not possible.
Recycling centres
Cottesmore Recycling Centre will be shut on Friday 10 March, due to the snow. North Luffenham Recycling Centre remains closed due to Severn Trent Water works.
Council buildings
Due to the snow, these buildings are closed on Friday 10 March:
- Rutland County Museum
- Ketton Library
- Rutland Adult Learning and Skills Service
All of the above information has been published on a central page on the RCC website, in addition to alert banners placed on individual service pages: www.rutland.gov.uk/council-news/2023/03/snow-causing-disruption-local-services.
We will continue to keep the website updated with any new information about disruption to services caused by the snow. This information is also being shared across our social media channels.
